Darren Brunson Joins Islanders Women's Basketball Staff
CORPUS CHRISTI - Head Coach Royce Chadwick has announced the hiring of Darren Brunson as an assistant coach for the Texas A&M - Corpus Christi women's basketball team, it was announced today.

Brunson comes to the Island University after spending the past two years as the associate head coach and team's recruiting coordinator at Texas Southern University.

It was there where Brunson
played an instrumental role in recruiting and shaping the Miners program.
He led UTEP to three consecutive winning seasons, including two that consisted of 20-plus victories.
Brunson began his career at Independence Community College in 1987 as an assistant men's basketball coach.
In 1989 he
took the reins of the women's basketball program and at the same time served as the director of athletics from 1991-2001.
He also served as the men's and women's basketball academic counselor.
The Wichita, Kan., native received the Army Commendation during the 1990 season after being called to active duty for Operation Desert Storm and Desert Shield.
playing days (1983-85) at St. Mary's University
in San Antonio, Texas, Brunson
, dished out 478 assists, shattering the school record.
also tallied an impressive 7.5 assists per game.
After graduation, Brunson was a student assistant for St. Mary's from 1985-87.
In 2004, he
was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame.
