"We're helping them build teams of staff from their organizations, including senior administrators, facilities staff, community outreach co-ordinators and others who will work together to develop sustainable transportation and energy reduction initiatives," said PRCS executive director Darla Simpson.
"Ultimately, the project participants will act as champions for sustainability in their communities to promote energy efficiency improvements and staff behavioural changes to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase cost savings." The first phase of the project will include a three-day training session for participant staffers from the different organizations to share ideas and looks at ways the regional governments can work together, said Simpson. "The results of the initial project implementation and a review of the utility savings data will be completed by January 2011," she reported. According to Simpson, the PRCS has a mission to help people conserve energy, water and reduce waste at home, work, school and in their communities by focusing on simple and effective daily changes to the way people think about and behave in their environment.
