Dr. Darius Maggi
Dr. Darius R. Maggi founded the West Africa Fistula Foundation (WAFF) in 2004 upon retiring from an accomplished 22 year career as an OB/GYN in Denison, Texas. Dr. Maggi traveled to Ghana in 2000 in search of a way to assist women of underdeveloped countries with obstetric fistula, a complication of obstructed labor virtually unseen in a more developed country, such as the United States of America. n November, 2002, Dr. Maggi traveled to Sierra Leone and upon meeting and serving the people of this impoverished culture, he was inspired to dedicate his retirement to performing as many fistula surgeries as possible. ince his initial visit to Sierra Leone in 2002, Dr. Maggi has made over 42 trips to Sierra Leone performing these fistula surgeries for the female populace of Sierra Leone and helping in any other ways that he can.Attended Medical School - University of Oklahoma 1970 - 1974 Dr. Sheref is currently working with Dr. Darius Maggi, Founder of the West Africa Fistula Foundation to facilitate the establishment of the West Africa Medical Center in Bo, Sierra Leone.

The couple are working with the West Africa Fistula Foundation, established by Texan obstetrician Darius Maggi to repair fistulas in new mothers - internal tears caused by obstructed labour.
Dr Maggi has repaired 1,000 fistulas and the organisation seeks to treat more victims and prevent avoidable new cases, through education and medical provision.
