The Ottawa Renegades are pleased to announce the signing of import placekicker Danny Kight to a one-year contract with a club option for the 2005 season.
The 32-year-old native of Atlanta joins the Renegades with extensive experience in the National Football League, notably for the Indianapolis Colts during the 1999 and 2000 seasons and the Baltimore Ravens in 2001.
A soccer player during his university days at Augusta State University in Georgia, Kight broke into the NFL when he signed as a free agent with the San Diego Chargers in 1996.
In 1998, Kight played in NFL Europe for the Germany-based Rhein Fire where he was a teammate of current Renegades quarterback Kerry Joseph.
Kight saw his first NFL regular-season action in 1999 after being signed as a free agent by the Colts, performing kickoff duties in 12 games.
In 2000, Kight returned to the Rhein Fire where he set a league record with a 56-yard field goal against the Barcelona Dragons.Upon returning to the United States, Kight served as the Colts' kickoff specialist for all the team's games in the regular season.
After being signed by the Baltimore Ravens as a free agent in 2001, Kight became the team's kickoff specialist in 10 regular-season games and two playoff contests.
"With the exception of his experience in NFL Europe, Danny has been utilized as a kickoff specialist due to his outstanding leg strength," said Renegades general manager Eric Tillman.

"All because we don't push a whole bunch of weight or some of the guys don't run the fastest 40 (yard-dash) times," said New York Jets' kicker Danny Kight, who assisted Oglesby with the camp along with Georgia Tech kicker Dan Burnett.
"At such a young age, guys coming around showing you, telling you and showing you the right techniques -- something I didn't have at that age," Kight said.
Kight, who looks to compete for the starting placekicker's job with the New York Jets this season after serving as a kickoff specialist for Indianapolis and Baltimore during his first three NFL seasons, sees it differently.
"In high schools, you're just pushed towards different positions," he said.

Kight has leg up on job
Expected to put his name on a contract with Ottawa in the not-too-distant future is Danny Kight, a 32-year-old former Indianapolis Colt and Baltimore Raven from Decatur, Ga.
Kight was active for 28 games with the Colts as a kickoff specialist to complement former Toronto Argo Mike Vanderjadt, starting in 2000.
Kight also suited up for 10 games with Baltimore and, among the five NFL camps he has attended, made it to the last cut with the New York Jets in 2003.
He is represented by Toronto-based agent Gil Scott, who also has Vanderjadt, former Renegades all-star Lawrence Tynes and Renegades GM Eric Tillman in his vast stable.
"We're very interested in him," Tillman said of Kight, who played in NFL Europe for the Rhein Fire as well.
The Renegades could also bring in another American kicker to compete with Kight and Canadian Ian Hewitt, although that decision may be delayed until the end of next month.

We got inside for warm-ups and snuck down behind the Colts bench to shout out Danny Kight in his home debut. The look on his face when he saw us was priceless - his jaw nearly hit the Astroturf!
I don't think Danny could quite believe that the Cheddarhead clowns had come all this way to see him. Well to be honest - we hadn't! But as luck would have it he signed with the Colts a couple of weeks before and so our decision to go and see this mis-match against the Bungles was vindicated!
Danny said he'd been following the Fire in 99 and thought they were unlucky not to make the World Bowl. He wished everyone in Europe well, and thanked the league for the opportunity to play. "Given Galen Hall my best. Go Fire next year!"
After saying farewell to Danny and company we slumped into a Sports Bar for a couple of hours and watched the Packers demolish the Chargers, before embarking on the long ride to Pittsburgh.
