A tool-and-die maker pleaded guilty as charged Wednesday to misdemeanor DWI charges that stemmed from the November crash that killed West Seneca Democratic Chairman Daniel S. McParlane.
The plea effectively closes the drunken driving case. But questions still linger, such as the blood alcohol content of McParlane, an off-duty Erie County sheriff's deputy who had met friends and associates at two area bars that night. And those questions may never be answered publicly.
A West Seneca man pleaded not guilty today to drunken driving charges from the Nov. 27 crash that killed West Seneca Democratic Chairman Daniel S. McParlane.
Styn was heading west on Indian Church Road when McParlane, 33, an Erie County sheriffs deputy, spun into Styns lane, according to West Seneca police accident reports. McParlane was driving east on Indian Church when he lost control of his vehicle and swerved into Styns path, according to the indictment. Styns car smashed into the passenger side of McParlanes vehicle, according to the police report. McParlane, who was not wearing a seat beat, was unconscious and bleeding severely from the head when rescuers freed him from his car. He was pronounced dead just before 1 a.m. Hours before the fatal crash, McParlane had attended a meeting of the Erie County Democratic town chairmens association in a Lackawanna bar and met afterward with then-Erie County Legislator-elect Patrick B. Burke in a South Buffalo pub.
Some details have emerged about the two-car crash last month that claimed the life of West Seneca Democratic Chairman Daniel S. McParlane.
Much of what we know came from Town Court, and even then only because The News threatened to take legal action. Police continue their indefensible refusal to release what should be public documents. Robert J. Styn Jr. was charged with driving while intoxicated after the Nov. 27 crash on Indian Church Road that killed McParlane, who also was a sheriffs deputy assigned to the Erie County Holding Center.

Burke in a South Buffalo pub before the crash occurred.
