Daniel Mandil oversees all legal affairs for the Motion Picture Association of America and all its projects and programs relating to copyright theft and intellectual property protection on a global basis.
He also serves as the Association's corporate secretary whose members are Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, Paramount Pictures Corporation, Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation, Universal Studios LLLP, and Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.
Before joining the MPAA, Mr. Mandil served as Executive Vice President, Global General Counsel & Secretary of Sony BMG Music Entertainment, the world's second largest recorded music company.
For many years before that, Mr. Mandil was a litigation partner in the New York offices of Covington & Burling and its predecessor firms where he litigated a wide array of commercial, IP and securities matters.
A native of Minneapolis and current resident of Los Angeles, Mr. Mandil is a graduate of Harvard College, the Harvard University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and Columbia Law School where he was the Editor-in-Chief of the Columbia Law Review.
Mr. Mandil began his legal career as a judicial law clerk to then-Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg at the United States Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit followed by a judicial clerkship with Associate Justice Sandra Day O'Connor at the United States Supreme Court.
