: For our association, we have a big emphasis on our for-profit side of the business and growing the products and services and growing the margins we make to subsidize the association's activities. The dues that we collect are not enough to fund the advocacy activities that we engage in.The for-profit subsidiaries are contributing in a big way to help fund our advocacy activities and agenda.
HL: What for-profit enterprises does HANYS
: We have four core businesses: HANYS Services Inc.
is involved with software: selling and maintaining software and data analysis and reporting and consulting.
: On a gross level, the for-profit entities combined would be about $15 million.
HL: How does the association decide which lines of business to enter?DelPozzo
: We determined that one of the core missions of the business has to be using the profits of the business to support advocacy activities.
: We have identified seven core priorities.Financial health, workforce quality, managed care, regulatory, healthcare access, community health and emergency, and disaster preparedness. In those seven, we have extensive work plans designed to address various aspects of each.
HL: How do your advocacy efforts dovetail with those from local and national advocacy groups?DelPozzo
: In New York, we are a little different than the rest of the country.
