Mr. Dan Bena Director of Sustainable Development PepsiCo Dan Bena is currently the Senior Director of Sustainable Development for PepsiCo, and serves as liaison between technical functions, government affairs, public policy, and field operations to develop substantive advocacy and messaging to internal and external stakeholder groups. Dan is former Chair of the Washington-based American Beverage Association's (ABA) Water Resources Committee, and has been active in the International Society of Beverage Technologists (ISBT), serving as founder and Chair of the Emerging Scientific Interests Subcommittee, founder and Chair of the Subcommittee for Sustainable Development, and a three-year elected term on the ISBT Board of Directors. Bena also serves on the Board-sponsored Public Health Committee of the Safe Water Network, which is a not-for-profit organization for which PepsiCo was a founding member, dedicated to market-based, sustainable community-level solutions to provide safe drinking water in developing economies. He serves on the Leaders Group for Water of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), the Global Agenda Council for Water Security and Water Planning Board of the World Economic Forum, and the Steering Committee of the United Nations CEO Water Mandate. In 2009, he was invited by the mayor of his city to serve on a new Sustainability Advisory Board to develop a forward-looking sustainability plan for the city, one of only three nationwide selected to pilot a new sustainability planning tool kit. Bena has become an "evangelist for sustainable development," spreading the word of how business can and must collaborate with other stakeholders to find creative solutions to the world's most pressing challenges. He has delivered many opening keynote addresses to diverse audiences, including academia, non-government organizations, trade associations, and others.

Dan Bena Dan Bena currently heads the Global Operations Sustainable Development agenda for PepsiCo, using the power of the private sector to help both business and society flourish. He serves/has served on the Public Health Committee of the Safe Water Network; the Leadership Group of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD); Steering Board of IFC's 2030 Water Resources Group; Steering Committee of the United Nations CEO Mandate; the Global Agenda Council on Water Security of the World Economic Forum; and the Board of the International Society of Beverage Technologists. Bena recently completed a three-year term on the Board of the Washington-based US Water Alliance, and currently serves on the Board of the Creative Visions Foundation, a non-profit using media and the arts to develop agents of positive social change. Their signature program, called Rock Your World, engages middle and high school students in the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and provides them the tools with which to become creative activists. Bena also serves on the Advisory Board of Artistic Circles, which produced the 2012 documentary, Water Pressures. In 2014, he was invited to serve on the Advisory Board of the Environmental Leader publications group, as well as the America's Water Initiative of the Earth Institute at Columbia University. In 2015, Bena was selected as a mentor for the ThreeDotDash.org program of the We Are Family Foundation; a judge for the University of Notre Dame Corporate Adaptation Prize; and as an advisor to the social venture start-up, Keela. He delivered the keynote address at the Royal Gala in the presence of TRH Princess Madeleine and Prince Daniel of Sweden, and has spoken at over 100 venues which span the business, government, academic, and non-profit worlds. In 2013, he represented PepsiCo at the Our Food, Our Future Summit, in Dublin, Ireland, attended by the Prime Minister of Ireland and the Minister of Agriculture. In 2012, he was invited to provide testimony to the US Senate. In 2013, he keynoted the United Nations Youth Assembly to over 1,000 youth delegates from over 100 countries. In 2014, Bena received the Light Up the Night Award for youth advocacy and engagement. In 2015, Bena was invited by the President of the UN General Assembly to participate in a high-level panel on partnerships to advance the post-2015 Development agenda, and was named an Honorary Professor by Glasgow Caledonian University.

He is currently the Head of Sustainable Development for PepsiCo, the world's second largest food and beverage company, which serves consumers in more countries and territories than the United Nations has members. He serves on the Public Health Committee of the Safe Water Network, dedicated to market-based, sustainable community level solutions to provide safe drinking water in developing economies; the Leadership Group of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD); and Steering Board of the International Finance Corporation's 2030 Water Resources Group Initiative. He formerly served on the Steering Committee of the United Nations CEO Mandate, and the Board of the International Society of Beverage Technologists. Most recently, Bena was elected to the Boards of the Washington-based US Water Alliance, and the Creative Visions Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to developing youth as agents of positive social change. He represented PepsiCo as one of only three invitees by the Federal Ministries of Germany to speak about the Food:Water:Energy Nexus in preparation for Bonn 2011. He was honored to deliver the keynote address at the Farm to Fork Royal Gala in the presence of TRH Princess Madeleine and Prince Daniel of Sweden, and has spoken at over 100 venues which span the business, government, academic, and non-profit worlds. In July, 2012, he was one of four witnesses invited to provide testimony to the US Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, Subcommittee on Water and Power.
