Jefferson Mayor Dana Tugman was presented with this year's Charles Von Canon Regional Leadership Award during the annual High Country Council of Governments awards banquet last Friday.
Tugman has served Jefferson for a total of 16 years, including 10 as mayor.
Aside from fulfilling his civic duties to the town of Jefferson
and Ashe County, Tugman
also answered his nation's call during the 1940s by serving in WWII.
Tugman explained that he became interested in serving on the town's board of alderman when he became aware of a seat vacancy.
"I was a resident of the town and I've always been interested in the progress of Jefferson
so when a vacancy was created and when some of the alderman encouraged me I decided to enter the race," Tugman
Along with his responsibilities as town mayor, Tugman also serves as a member of the HCCG executive board and is a member of the council's advisory committee.
