Leadership Insights Shared By Dan Woods Leadership Insights Shared By Dan Woods Last year, Georgia Association of Healthcare Executives implemented a program series called "Lunch with the CEO" where each month a small group of GAHE members can join a hospital CEO for 90 minutes and ask various questions about their leadership experience. On Friday (January 27), Dan Woods, President of WellStar Kennestone Hospital here in Marietta took time out of his busy schedule to meet with GAHE members. I had the pleasure to join. The conversation with Dan Woods was very inspiring. Here are the five lessons I took away. Make time for yourself and recharge I admit I was surprised that the topic of balance and taking time out for self and family came up early in the meeting. Mr. Woods said, "Healthcare is brutal. Mr. Woods learned during his career that he doesn't have to know it all and he doesn't have to figure it all out. Instead, sometimes you just have to throw it out there, be transparent and let your team know that you don't have an answer. Connect with people I noticed that connecting with people comes naturally for Dan Woods. He modeled it throughout the meeting. First, before the meeting started, he walked around the room, shook each person's hand and made us feel welcome. When everybody introduced themselves, he intently looked at each person while they were speaking eagerly listening what they had to share. Throughout the meeting, he referred many responses to something that someone else said in their introduction which made the connection even stronger. As he said, "You learn a lot by talking with people." I tremendously enjoyed this lunch and I thank Dan Woods for sharing his insights.
Four WellStar leaders sent messages, including Dan Woods, president of WellStar Kennestone Regional Medical Center; Kem Mullins, chief operating officer for WellStar Health System; Craig Owens, president of WellStar Douglas Hospital; and Amy Carrier, president of WellStar Cobb Hospital.
"A gift of life is the greatest gift a person can give," Woods said.
"This award is a testament to the patient-centered care our team strives for-both when they are with patients as well as when they dedicate their time to professional growth and continual training," said Dan Woods, president of WellStar Kennestone Hospital.
