Presenter: Dan Weissmann, DW & Associates, LLC
Dr. Dan Weissmann started his carrier in beverage packaging in the 1970s, when he joined Monsanto's Cycle Safe project, the development of the first plastic bottles for carbonated soft drinks.
With the phasing out of this project, in 1977 Dan
joined CCC Beverage Bottle Division and was responsible for process technology transfer to and the start-up of several of the first new PET plants.
Dan later returned to Monsanto, where he became a group leader involved in the development of hot-filled PET juice bottles, bringing the first commercial bottle, Ocean Spray, into the market in 1985.
In 1994 Dan
became director of product development at JCI
, now Amcor PET Packaging.
In 1998 he
left to build his
own consulting business.
As part of the consultancy he was asked in 2004 to serve as interim director of product development at Amcor.
A fellow of SPE, which he joined as a student member, Dan has served on the board and as program director of the Blow Molding Division.
has presented papers at ANTECs, RETECs, and elsewhere, taught several courses in an SPE-sponsored program, and has been awarded several patents related to blow molding.
is a regular contributor to Plastic in Packaging magazine
