While the committee-based fund raising methods state politicians employ are legal, Dan Krassner, executive director of the nonpartisan government watchdog group Integrity Florida, doesn't much like them.
"Committees and political parties often transfer funds to each other, which makes it difficult for the public to trace the exact donor funding a candidate or cause," Krassner said.

Soft money donations are those through which a political committee may advocate, by "urging voters to vote for or against a candidate," Krassner said.
But an Electioneering Communication Organization "May not expressly advocate," he said. Meaning the ad can't ask for a vote for a specific candidate.
This allows organizations to run ads without acknowledging who, other than an often obscure entity, paid for it.
That often "makes it difficult for the public to trace the exact donor funding a candidate or cause," Krassner said.

The large amount of money in politics is drowning the voices of citizens, said Dan Krassner, co-founder of Integrity Florida, a nonprofit that monitors government ethics and finances statewide.
It is unfortunate that Sarasota residents cannot decide for themselves how they want their elections funded, he said, as local regulations are easy to circumvent through limited liability corporations or political action committees.
"As good-intentioned as those limits were in Sarasota County, the state Legislature has created plenty of other ways for donors to avoid them," Krassner said.
