Damon King
Senior Policy Advocate Damon King is Legal Aid's Senior Policy Advocate. Damon works closely with Legal Aid staff attorneys to address systemic issues that affect Legal Aid clients and the communities in which they live. Damon's work includes work on Legal Aid's strategic campaigns and priorities, as well as advocacy at the Council of the District of Columbia regarding legislation, the District's budget, and oversight of District agencies. Damon also advocates to improve agency regulations and policies governing services for District residents living in poverty. Prior to joining Legal Aid in 2017, Damon was a Guardian ad litem Staff Attorney, then a Policy Attorney and Senior Policy Attorney at the Children's Law Center in DC. As a GAL, Damon represented youth in the District's foster care system and as a Policy Attorney, he advocated at the Council and District agencies regarding issues affecting District children and families, including services for District foster youth, DC's TANF program, homeless services, and early childhood programming. Prior to joining Children's Law Center, Damon was a Skadden Fellow at the Youth Law Center in California. His project focused on addressing living conditions and rights violations in California group homes and shelter facilities for foster youth. Damon received his B.A. in Government, cum laude in field, from Harvard University. He received his J.D. from Harvard Law School, where he was a member of the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau.
