Worldwide Chief Strategy Officer
Damian is responsible for leading Maxus' strategic direction, with a specific focus on technology and data - as well as innovation, which is why he also oversees Metalworks (Maxus' creative technology division).
He has a broad range of experience spanning digital and non-digital media, as well as ad-tech software development at two start ups.
During his 20+ years in the industry he has launched three digital agency businesses, including Annalect, Omnicom's data and technology division. He's also managed a local media agency as CEO of UM UK.

Maxus hires Damian Blackden as chief strategy officer

Maxus has enlisted Damian Blackden as chief strategy officer where he will join the agency's global management team.
The global media agency has tasked Blackden, a former Omnicom Media Group president in EMEA, APAC and LATAM, with developing and executing strategy through the Maxus network.
He will work closely with worldwide chief executive Lindsay Pattison also collaborating with regional chief executives and digital leads across the business.
Commenting on his appointment Pattison said: "Securing such a visionary and entrepreneurial talent as Damian is a real coup and we're delighted to welcome him into the Maxus fold.
"Damian has a stellar digital background and is very tech-smart. I am thrilled to have him on-board to help define and execute our roadmap as we continue to Lean into Change in this complex media world where there's fantastic opportunity."
Blackden added: "Media and technology are in my DNA, and the draw of Maxus and GroupM was far too compelling for me to refuse. I'm now looking forward to help shape the evolving Maxus agency network, and deliver innovative and groundbreaking work across its territories."
Blackden will co-locate between London and New York, and will report directly to Pattison.

When Damian Blackden ventured into ad tech as CEO of Adnologies, after working at Omnicom's Annalect, he "wanted to get close to technology and that was an opportunity to do it," he said. He later co-founded Device[9], which was acquired by Flashtalking, and is now Maxus' worldwide chief strategy officer.

Besides gaining sharper tech skills, Blackden also learned about ad tech business models - which is important given his current role as an agency CSO.
"[Ad tech is] very black and white. The tech is either working or it's not," he said. "On the agency side you're talking about strategy that some people might support and [some] might not."
Spending time in both worlds was one of several factors that led Blackden to co-launch Maxus Technology Consulting in February, which advises brands on how to leverage tools most effectively for their marketing efforts.
