Rev. Daly Barnes, Jr. installed as pastor of Zion Baptist Church
The official ceremony, Oct. 13, was held at the main sanctuary on Broad and Venango Streets. The Rev. William B. Shaw, pastor of White Rock Baptist Church and the national president of the National Baptist Convention, preached last Sunday's installation sermon.
"It is with great pleasure and joy that I find myself a welcomed and loved member of Zion," said Reverend Barnes
."There are big shoes to fill here but I know that would not have been blessed to be apart of this family if the Lord had not deemed it so."Reverend Barnes comes to Zion Baptist Church from Bethel Baptist Church in White Plains, New York where he made enormous strides in community outreach, member participation and capital development.
But the long road to Zion began long before his
tenure in New York.Barnes's calling came when he was a young man of 17 years in his native Washington, D.C. After four years as a licensed minister, Rev. Barnes was ordained by the Baptist Ministers' Conference of D.C. and Vicinity. From there he went on to further his education at Howard University where he obtained degrees in Music Education and Divinity.
We are confident that Pastor Barnes
is a proven leader in these areas. And also, he
will be a good fit for this community in its outreach to Tioga Nicetown and the greater Philadelphia area. His
experience and understanding are added blessings for our congregation and we welcome him with open arms."

Or worse yet, what if Rev. Daly Barnes (my former pastor once upon a time) just stood over my shoulder as I wrote and just told me how wrong, wrong, wrong I was and how I'm going to hell?
