Dale Harris Sparacino
Member-At-Large - Arden, NC Dale Harris Sparacino has been in education since graduating from Florida Atlantic University in 1980 with a B.A. in Exceptional Student Education. She has earned additional certifications in Behavioral / Emotionally Handicapped, as well as Learning Disabilities from Western Carolina University. Her teaching career has included 6 years working with Behaviorally / Emotionally Handicapped students in the NC Henderson County Schools, 6 years teaching in The Learning Skills Program at her alma mater, The Hun School of Princeton in NJ, and she has been teaching in The Learning Resource Program at Christ School since 1992, serving as Director of the program for the first 15 years. Dale grew up in summer camp at Camp Highlander in Mills River, NC, and spent 35 years making her way through the "ranks" of camper, kitchen staff, Office Staff, senior counselor, Arts and Crafts Specialist, Junior Wilderness Camp Specialist, and Water Ski Instructor. It was her family, her upbringing, and her experiences at camp that helped to form her sense of responsibility, her work ethic, and her love of the outdoors. In the summer of 1998, she began her relationship with SOAR working with Jonathan Jones and John Willson as Assistant Staff on Alumni Specialty Courses. Dale has had the good fortune of helping with 8 Belize courses, a course in Costa Rica, a Canadian Rockies course, a Florida Keys / Dry Tortugas course, and her final trip was the inaugural course in Peru. Additionally, Dale spent 2 summers teaching English and then math in the Academic Discovery Program at Balsam Base. Dale is a member of LDANC and its Board, as well as a member of the SOAR Board of Directors, Balsam, NC.
