Daisy Vulovich is the new executive director of Manatee Community College's Open Campus' Center for Corporate and Professional Development
.Formerly dean of continuing education at St. Charles Community College , near St. Louis , Mo. , Vulovich helped start that college 13 years ago and built an array of programs for all segments of the community

A first-generation American whose parents emigrated from Yugoslavia , Vulovich
grew up in New York City and became the first in her
family to complete college.
With parents who struggled to overcome language and other barriers to succeed in a new country , Vulovich
feels a strong tie to the open-door policy of community colleges.She
was attracted to an open campus structure that allows for programs like Kids Summer Spectrum , free general education preparation classes , workforce development and courses for the senior adult learner.One of her goals is to work more closely with school districts and create more opportunities for young students to come to MCC campuses
would like to develop more partnerships with technical institutions and community agencies to enhance school-to-work opportunities.
Familiar with running multi-campus operations , Vulovich wants to tailor open campus programs to the needs of unique communities served at MCC Bradenton , MCC Venice and the yet-to-be-built Lakewood Ranch Workforce Development/Corporate Training Center.
Already a force in the Bradenton area , MCC's open campus is expanding more to serve communities in the south and east.At MCC Venice , Vulovich will coordinate her efforts with the Business Resource Center to develop programs that serve what she perceives to be an active , interested , growing community open to trying new things
.Vulovich is in the dissertation state of earning a doctor of philosophy degree from St. Louis University
.She has a master's degree in counseling and personnel services from the University of Maryland at College Park and a bachelor's degree in psychology from University at Albany -- New York
