The Leadership Lufkin alumni presented the prestigious Jack O. (Butch) McMullen Silver Spike award for 2013 to Curtis W. Fenley, III of Fenley & Bate, Attorneys at Law, at the First Friday Luncheon at Crown Colony Country Club on October 4, 2013.
Curt Fenley has lived in Lufkin most of his life in Lufkin, graduating from Lufkin High School, followed by college at Baylor, and a then a second degree from Baylor in law.
His skills were already recognized in law school when he was named Baylor's Outstanding Advocate for fall '82 and received the Williams Foundation Advocacy Award.
After graduating from law school, he
returned to Lufkin to practice with his
father in the firm that his
grandfather began in 1929.

For the past 30 years, our Silver Spike winner has practiced law in Lufkin, specializing in trucking and transportation litigation, labor and employment litigation, non-subscriber litigation and personal injury defense.
He is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
He is a member of many professional legal associations but most active in the American Board of Trial Advocates, an organization dedicated to preservation of the Seventh Amendment's right to trial by jury.
He currently serves as the President of the East Texas chapter of this organization.

A longtime member of Lufkin's First Baptist Church, Curt has taught Sunday School for over 25 years in both the Young Adult and Youth Departments.
He serves as a Deacon and a very active member of the choir.
has a beautiful voice and has sung at countless weddings and funerals over the decades.
He has been a member of the Lufkin Rotary Club and was named a Paul Harris Fellow, one of Rotary's highest honors.
A tireless volunteer for many organizations in Lufkin and Angelina County, he served for many years on the Lufkin/Angelina County Chamber of Commerce board, and was Chairman in 2007.
advocated for a mental health crisis center and coordinated efforts to make that a reality.
He has served on the Boards of the Lufkin Association of Downtown Development, Main Street Lufkin, the Angelina Operation Immunization Coalition, and the Lufkin Volunteer Services Council.
He currently serves as Board President for the Angelina Arts Alliance.
