Crystal E. Ashby
Crystal is currently the Vice President of Government and Public Affairs, Refining and Marketing for BP.
In this role, Crystal
leads a team of 21 government and public affairs professionals located across the country who are responsible for advocacy of issues in the public and government arenas supporting the business strategies and reputation of R & M's varied businesses in the US, which include 5 refineries, 3 chemical plants, a nationwide pipeline/logistics business, retail stations, sales of jet fuels and lubricants and brand marketing.
Crystal's group supports the business needs of the R&M
assets by working state and local external relationships, legislative, public affairs and community relations.
Before being appointed as Vice President, Government and Public Affairs, R&M, Crystal was the Head of Change Management for BP Legal.
In this role Crystal
was responsible for the effective management of all aspects of the transition of the Legal team from Chicago to Houston.
From December 2005 - December 2007, Crystal was the Managing Attorney for US Retail.
supervised the largest team of employee and contract commercial lawyers and paralegals in BP Legal
, located in La Palma, CA and Warrenville, IL, who supported the commercial and real estate aspects of BP's
During 2004 - 05, Crystal served as the first Senior Advisor for BP's newly-appointed Compliance and Ethics Officer at BP's global headquarters in St. James's Square, London.
In this role, she
was responsible for helping establish and build the management infrastructure and staffing for effectively rolling out BP's
new global Code of Conduct to its approximately 45,000 employees in the US, Canada and Latin America.
While in London, Crystal also served as the Western Hemisphere liaison between the President of BP America Inc. and BP's Chief of Staff's office.
From 2002 - 2004, Crystal was part of the litigation group, managing litigation in 8 states as well as supervising the litigation paralegals.
From 1993, when she joined Amoco Oil Company, to 2002 Crystal was a Regional Commercial Business attorney.
During her 16-year career with Amoco and BP, Crystal has served as a legal advisor and counselor on matters ranging from advertising, antitrust, commercial business, compliance, contract and franchise law as well as litigation.
Prior to becoming a member of the Amoco / BP legal team, Crystal was a litigation attorney in the Chicago office of Hinshaw & Culbertson, joining the firm as an associate in 1989 practicing as a litigator in the area of products liability.
Prior to joining Hinshaw, she had been an associate at Jones, Ware & Grenard and served as Law Clerk to the Hon. Judge Odas Nicholson in the Circuit Court of Cook County, IL.
Crystal received her J.D., from DePaul University College of Law in 1986 and her BA with a double major of English and Psychology from the University of Michigan in 1983.
Crystal is a currently a trustee on the Board of the National Urban League, a board member of the Western States Petroleum Association (WSPA), a member of Chicago United's CEO Council, the BP Executive to the University of Michigan and a member of the Greater Houston Partnership's Executive Women's Partnership Committee.
Crystal has previously served on the Allocations committee of the Chicago Foundation for Women.
