have spent many years reading, writing, thinking and learning about reading comprehension.
Inspired by the comprehension research of P. David Pearson and his colleagues, Steph, Debbie and Cris
have worked in a variety of settings to advocate for comprehension instruction for all of our kids.
Primary teachers spend the three afternoons with Debbie Miller, intermediate teachers spend the afternoons with Stephanie Harvey and middle and high school teachers spend their afternoons with Cris Tovani.
Cris Tovani taught elementary school for ten years before becoming a high school reading specialist and English teacher.
In addition to teaching full-time, she
is a nationally known consultant, focusing on issues of reading and content comprehension in high school classrooms.
Cris has also worked for many years as a staff developer for the Denver-based Public Education and Business Coalition (PEBC), the consortium that has received national acclaim for its work in reading comprehension reform.
Cris has been an adjunct professor at the University of Denver and the University of Colorado at Denver.
