Putnam County Sheriff's Deputy Craig Sibbitt told the Banner-Graphic Friday night that he had observed a late model Chevy Suburban earlier in the day traveling at a high rate of speed on U.S. 40 between Manhattan and Reelsville.
lost sight of the vehicle when the driver apparently turned south off of the highway near Manhattan.About a half-hour later, Sibbitt
came across the vehicle parked in a driveway.But when he
approached the vehicle, the deputy said, the driver sped away, nearly running into the deputy's patrol car.
"I was lucky to find the vehicle," Sibbitt
The pursuit resumed, traveling south where it ended just north of Cataract Lake in the Ivanwald subdivision. Sibbitt
noticed the vehicle had been parked along the street.But when he
discovered the suspect had fled into the nearby woods which encircle the lake.
