According to Walther, much of the concern about the festival from citizens of Jefferson County is due to misleading information given by Craig Jennings, president of the Preston County Commission, about the 2011 All Good Festival held in Preston County.
Craig Jennings is the president of the county commission (in Preston County), but he's speaking on behalf of himself. He's not representing Preston County in any official capacity."
Walther said that while Jennings said traffic to the festival site was backed up for 14 miles, the longest traffic back-up in All Good Festival history occurred in 2005, when rain storms related to Hurricane Katrina flooded the main gate.
Jennings also claimed that Preston County lost more money than it made during the festival, a claim Walther said has not been verified.
"(Jennings) stated that there were 75 arrests (during the 2011 festival), and the way these arrests took place was that on every county route in every direction, police were pulling over every vehicle, whether they were going to the festival or they were a local resident going somewhere else in the county," Walther said.
Earlier this year, we reported on ..., 2 July 2015 [cached]
Earlier this year, we reported on information provided by Craig Jennings, who was president of the Preston County Commission the last time the festival was there, in 2011. He told us the festival's patrons do not respect the community in which it is held, citing not only a large number of drug arrests but a lack of a boost to the local economy.
"Maybe a few convenience stores who sold beer did well, but any profits made were eaten up by the demand for extra manpower (in the form of emergency personnel)," Jennings told us.
