Connie Jo Popham Purchis was installed as the 14th district commander at the 85th American Legion Department of Texas convention in Lubbock on July 12. District Commander Purchis is a native of Floresville.She is eligible for American Legion membership through her service in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.She has been a member of the American Legion for 26 years and is a life member of Floresville Post 38.Purchis is active within the American Legion and has held many offices.She has the honor of being the first woman ever to hold an office in the American Legion Department of France.In addition, she was the department chaplain and held the offices of post chaplain and adjutant, district vice commander, and division chaplain. Purchis also is the immediate past director VIP of the 20/4.The 20/4 is an honor society of female Legionnaires.Also a 25-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary, she has held the offices of president, vice president, and secretary.Purchis is the daughter of Clarence and Lea Popham.
