Viva Macau is looking for another chief executive officer after the departure of Con Korfiatis from Macau's low budget airline.
Korfiatis is being substituted temporarily by MKW shareholder and member of board of administrators Reginald Mcdonald. Before being appointed CEO, Mr Korfiatis was Viva's chief operating officer and chief financial officer. Before coming to Macau, Mr Korfiatis worked for carriers such as Qantas and Singapore Airlines.

Jetstar Asia Chief Operating Officer, Con Korfiatis, said: "It's our people that will really make the difference.

Mr Korfiatis said that up to 200 jobs would be created when Jetstar Asia launched by the end of the year. He said forty five experienced pilots had been recruited and over fifty cabin crew were currently in training with more to join the airline over the coming months. Mr Korfiatis said that Jetstar Asia's fleet of brand new Airbus A320 aircraft, which seat 180 customers, would arrive in Singapore from next month. Mr Korfiatis said the Jetstar Asia fleet would comprise four A320s by January 2005 and build to more than 20 aircraft over the next three years. Chief operating officer Con Korfiatis told The Straits Times that the yet-unnamed airline has not received its Singapore licence from the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS). but the newspaper's sources said that the green light will come soon.

Forget the free drinks, peanuts and meal service, Con Korfiatis is in love with budget airlines. Mr Korfiatis, 42, says both he and his new airline are hungry to recruit more staff and buy new aircraft as it tries to wrest market share from long-time monopoly Air Macau.Mr Korfiatis started his airline career at Ansett Airlines, Australia's second-largest airline before its collapse in September 2001.He then joined Qantas Airlines and was appointed chief executive officer of the Australian flag carrier's low-cost carrier Jetstar. Mr Korfiatis was born in Sydney to parents who emigrated from Greece.He is married with one child and is interested in movies, music, cars and golf.
