DR. COLIN SALDANHA

Dr. Colin Saldanha is a resident of Mississauga and has been an active member of the local community for over 25 years. He is married to Shelia and has three children, Diane, Warren and Jason. Dr. Saldanha is a family physician and is affiliated with the Credit Valley Hospital. His medical practice involves family, travel, corporate and occupational medicine. He has accredited designated status with the Ministry of Transport as an Aviation Medical Examiner, Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration and as an Immigration Medical Examiner, and is a Designated Physician for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). r. Saldanha has been the President and Chairman of the Mississauga Board of Trade, Chairman of the Peel Police Services Board, President of the Canadian Association of Police Boards, Chairman of the United Way Peel Region, Chairman of Health Policy Committee of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, Member of the Hazel McCallion Academic Learning Centre Fundraising Cabinet and Chairman of the Mississauga Safe and Sober Driving Coalition. Presently, Colin is on the Board Directors of United Way Canada and was appointed by Premier McGuinty to the Board of Trustees for the Royal Ontario Museum. He is also a Member of the Mississauga Summit Steering Committee and is the Co-Chair of the Diversity and Immigration Taskforce. Dr. Saldanha, a strong committed and dedicated social advocate, was named Mississauga's Citizen of the Year in 2010 and awarded the Gordon S. Shipp Memorial Award for his volunteer efforts. In addition, he was awarded the Nestor Yanga Physician of the Year by the KMH Cardiology and Diagnostic Centre. His community work has also been recognized by the Federal Government which named him a recipient of the Governor Generals "Canada 125" Medal.

Dr. Saldanha is deeply rooted in the community that he serves. As a family physician in Mississauga and a member of the Foundation's Board of Directors since 2010, Dr. Saldanha has a long and distinguished history of public service and has been a staunch advocate for the marginalized members of our society, primarily in the areas of social justice and mental health.
As a committed and tireless community leader, he has served as Chair of the Peel Police Services Board, Mississauga Board of Trade, United Way, Canadian Association of Police Boards and the Health Policy Committee of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce. He has also been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Ontario Museum and was a member of the fundraising cabinet of the Hazel McCallion Academic Learning Centre of the University of Toronto, Mississauga campus.
Dr. Saldanha has also served as Chair of the Mental Health Task Force for the Mississauga Halton LINH and Co-chair of the System Access Model in the development of a new psychiatric care model. As Chair of the Public Policy Committee of United Way of Peel Region he initiated a non-pharmacological approach to mental health.
In recognition of his longstanding service to the community, Dr. Saldanha has received several commendations. He was honoured with the Sir Charles Tupper Award presented by the Canadian Medical Association for Political Action and Advocacy, the Governor General's Medal for Volunteerism, the Queen's Diamond Jubilee medal, the Sam McCallion Award for community service by the Mississauga Board of Trade, and the Paul Harris Award by Rotary International. Dr. Saldanha was selected as the Mississauga Citizen of the Year 2010. He has recently received a Papal Knighthood.
In June 2015, Dr. Colin Saldanha was appointed as Board Chair of Trillium Health Partners Foundation. His close ties to the hospital and the community will help advance the Foundation's mission to inspire our community to invest in a new kind of healthcare. His strong leadership, influential guidance and longstanding community involvement will help the Foundation support Trillium Health Partners, one of the largest academic based hospitals in Ontario.
