Mayor Lucas announced the Virginia Municipal League is sponsoring an essay contest for 7 th Grade students.
The essay topic is "If I were Mayor", and he will provide this information to teachers at the Page County Middle School. CALL TO ORDER: The Shenandoah Town Council held its regular meeting on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at 7:00 p.m., with Mayor Clinton O. Lucas, Jr., presiding. The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance. ATTENDANCE: Council Members present were: Mayor Clinton O. Lucas, Jr.; Vice Mayor William Kite; Councilmen Russell Comer, Jr.; Charles Jenkins; and Richard Pierce. Mayor Lucas suggested the legislators consider an alternate transportation provider for people needing mental healthcare. Mayor Lucas read the Proclamation as follows: NOW, THEREFORE, I, Clinton O. Lucas, Jr., the Mayor of the Town of Shenandoah, Commonwealth of Virginia, do hereby proclaim September 17 through 23, 2014 as: TREASURER'S REPORT: Mayor Lucas read the Treasurer's report, submitted by Treasurer Cindy Breeden, for September 5, 2014. Item # 1 - Mayor Lucas and Council Members received two (2) price quotes for signs to be installed on the cannon and the elementary school. Item # 2 - Mayor Lucas and Council Members received the August 2014 Town Vehicle Gasoline Log for review. Item # 3 - Mayor Lucas and Council reviewed information regarding vacancies on Council Committees. Mayor Lucas inquired about the water leak on Ninth Street and Town Manager Dovel reported this leak was repaired recently. Mayor Lucas and Councilman Pierce noted the need to install a riser or put more cold patch over the manhole located at the intersection of Fourth Street and Denver Avenue. Clinton O. CALL TO ORDER: The Shenandoah Town Council held its regular meeting on Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at 7:00 p.m., with Mayor Clinton O. Lucas, Jr., presiding.
The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance. ATTENDANCE: Council Members present were: Mayor Clinton O. Lucas, Jr.; Vice Mayor William Kite; Councilmen Russell Comer, Jr.; David Hinkle; Charles Jenkins; and Richard Pierce. Mayor Lucas stated cost is an issue, along with potential safety of both those riding the golf carts and other people too. He noted although Town legal costs can get expensive, the Town Attorney is still one of the lowest paid municipal attorney in the area. He estimated it could cost up to $5,000 for all costs involved and Council has to consider the cost versus how many people will purchase a sticker for the golf cart use. Mayor Lucas and several Council Members addressed this matter noting the construction of a picnic shelter was discussed at open public meetings and two (2) different bids were received. Mayor Lucas stated that would be no problem and he would be notified of any meetings where this issue may be discussed. TREASURER'S REPORT: Mayor Lucas read the Treasurer's report, submitted by Treasurer Cindy Breeden, for August 26, 2014. Item # 1 - Mayor Lucas and Council Members received a memorandum from Town Manager Dovel regarding the need to transfer funds to purchase the water meters that was approved at the last meeting. The transfer of the funds was delayed at the last meeting until the cost of shipping and handling could be obtained. Item # 2 - Mayor Lucas and Council Members reviewed a second memorandum from Town Manager Dovel regarding the need to purchase new handhelds for the water meter reading system. He noted the old handhelds will no longer be updated or supported by the company by the end of this year. Item # 3 - Mayor Lucas and Council received information regarding the last Cruz In of the season will be held on Friday, September 12th, at 6 p.m. Item # 5 - Mayor Lucas and Council Members received a flier regarding a new service in Town.
