Cletus Oakley graduated from the University of Texas in electrical engineering, and earned a Ph.D. in Math from University of Illinois.He began his teaching career at Brown University, but eventually accepted a position at Haverford College where he became the head of the Math department.For a number of years he served as chairman of the committee that writes the mathematics SAT test.He is also the author of a number of widely used text books published by McGraw Hill.An interest in the problems associated with teaching mathematics to elementary and high school students led to Mr. Oakley's development of the well known "New Math" curriculum.
