Officer-in-Charge of the Armed Robbery Squad Assistant Superintendent Clayton Fernander said the gunmen mainly target women entering their homes.
He added that in most cases police have noticed that there are two individuals wearing hooded sweatshirts while carrying out the armed robberies.
According to police, the vehicles of choice for the thieves are 1990s-model Nissan Sentras and Honda Accords.
News of the armed robberies in the east came weeks after police from the Cable Beach Police Station revealed that women in western New Providence were also being robbed at gunpoint outside their homes and businesses.
While police would not say if they believed the armed gunmen in the east are also behind the string of thefts in west, Fernander insisted that investigators are close to cracking the cases.

In the wake of the robberies Superintendent Clayton Fernander yesterday warned people to be aware of their surroundings when wearing expensive jewelry as it could make them a target of attacks.
The superintendent also said police had "one or two" reports of persons being carjacked after being involved in minor car accidents.
"We are concerned about these armed robberies and the trend is persons with jewelry and then sometimes vehicles are targeted," Fernander said. "A trend we noticed that is developing is where an accident is staged, someone will bump into you and when you come out to check your vehicle then you will be robbed. We see a developing trend with respect to that, so we want members of the public to be on the alert."
Fernander added that investigators are working to determine if the spate of robberies are connected, or are being committed by different perpetrators.

Yesterday, Assistant Superintendent Clayton Fernander, who is stationed at the Central Detective Unit, said police had no suspects in custody for any of the holiday murders.
He also could not say what motivated them. He noted it was still early in both investigations.
"I hope that something breaks at the end of the day. However, we're still asking for members of the public to assist us with information," Fernander said.

Yesterday, Fernander said it did not appear as if Bain, a resident of West Dennis Court in Yellow Elder Gardens, was the victim of a robbery.
He said investigators were talking to people in the area who may have witnessed the shooting.

During a news conference yesterday morning, Officer-in-Charge of the Armed Robbery Squad Assistant Superintendent Clayton Fernander told the media that a spate of armed robberies in eastern New Providence over the past month and a half has prompted police to go public with a warning.
Fernander, who was flanked by other senior officers from the recently created National Crime Prevention Office, said that the gunmen mainly target women entering their homes.
"We have noticed a trend in the eastern district of New Providence where females, upon arrival at home late in the evenings, are approached by men who would attack them and rob them at gunpoint of their personal items," said Fernander.

"In the commission of these offenses, we note that vehicles that have been reported stolen are being used to commit these crimes," said Fernander. "What they are doing is stealing license plates and switching plates on these vehicles."
According to Fernander, the vehicles of choice for the thieves are 1990s model Nissan Sentras and Honda Accords.

While police would not say if they believed the armed gunmen in the east are also behind the string of thefts in western New Providence, Fernander insisted that investigators are close to cracking the cases.
"What we have done as a result of these armed robberies is beef up our patrols throughout New Providence. We have also been doing a number of stop and search," he said.

Assistant Superintendent Clayton Fernander said officers now have little leads to go on, but are still working closely with investigators from fire services in an effort to crack the case.
"We are still investigating and still asking for any assistance from members of the public. [We have] no leads," Fernander said yesterday.
He said police still are not sure if an arsonist intentionally set the fire.
"We haven't ruled out arson," Fernander said. "We're still working with the fire department.
