Training and Education
On successfully completing an OND in Hotel and Catering Operations at Ealing College, Clare went on to obtain a certificate in Group Training Techniques, with the Hotel and Catering Training Board. Following her passion for training and keeping fit, Clare was awarded in 1993 an RSA for teaching exercise to music. (Today, she still enjoys running in charity fun runs!). Studies at Westminster University, for a Certificate in Education, were swiftly followed by National Vocational Qualifications as an assessor and verifier. Subsequent work at Forte Hotels, on their world-wide Customer Care Project, "Commitment to Excellence", enabled Clare to become a qualified Training Instructor/Facilitator.
Twenty years of working in operation management within the hospitality sector, gave Clare invaluable experience regarding people management and people skills, coupled with a passion for learning and development, Clare had an envious head start when she later turned her hand to a new challenge as an in-house trainer. In her capacity as a training manager for the contract catering firm The Compass Group, working to Investors in People principles ( IiP quality kite-mark for training and development), Clare took responsibility for the design and implementation of training programmes for staff and clients that included GlaxoSmithKline, PricewaterhouseCoopers and The Virgin Group.
For the last six years Clare has worked as a freelance training consultant designing bespoke courses to enhance management and team skills. Clare balances this work with part-time lecturing at Thames Valley University (formally Ealing College), working in the Faculty of Professional Studies, teaching on the Foundation Degree in Customer Care. For the last 3 years, Clare coordinates Thames Valley Universities' Enterprise Project, working with a consortium of seven universities to promote entrepreneurship.
Recent work on a project supporting women as intra and entrepreneurs, catapulted Clare to recognition within her field and the realisation of a lifetime ambition. In November 2007, Clare was deservedly applauded with the National Training Award for the Greater London Region.

The Business Connection [cached]

When an unexpected reduction in funding nearly stopped the successful Idea to Implementation programme for female entrepreneurs, Clare Concannon concentrated on what could be done, rather than wasting energy where there was little room for negotiation.

With the support of Harrow in Business, who partnered the three year programme and the understanding of our local Lloyds TSB bank, a new phase for the course emerged and The Women's Connection network was started in June 2006!
The positive approach to extremely difficult circumstances was recognised in the partnership entry for the National Training Awards. In November 2007 Harrow in Business and Clare Concannon received a National Training Award (Greater London Region)at Banqueting House, London, presented by Dave Grant of the BBC Fame Academy.

Clare Concannon - The Founder

The uniqueness of Positive Experience Training is the founder's unusual combination of experience and skills, gained from over 20 years of working in the Hospitality Industry. Clare then followed a passion for training in the corporate world as a training manager, moving on to higher education, where she worked for 6 years as a part-time lecturer / key contact for enterprise based at Thames Valley University - Ealing; using any available time to start her own business.
More recently whilst working as a freelance trainer and associate with other partners, Clare also balances being a qualified SFEDI assessor (Small Firms Enterprise Development Initiative) assessing business advisors and supporting her own clients / mentee's.
Inbetween work Clare finds the energy to train and run half marathons in a very respectable time. We can now see why negative thoughts take second place and the only comfortable approach to life and work is a positive one!
"Clare is a phenomenal business woman, with extra amazing networking resources.
"Working knowledge started working with Clare from Positive Experience about 5 years ago, when we first came across each other through her work at Thames Valley University. It was clear from the onset that Clare was only interested in pushing us forward and helping us make a success of what was at the time a fairly small but growing business"
"Since that time she has helped us develop in a number of areas including our own train the trainer programme - where she is frequently asked to help us with awkward or complicated clients -right through to advising us on how to enter the National Training Awards, which we successfully achieved and won in 2008!"
"Clare is extremely well connected and is constantly on the look out for both exciting and new connections that she thinks may be of benefit to our business - it's like having a bespoke business talent scout who understands what we might need and can identify and exploit potential on our behalf"
"We feel that Clare is always looking out for our interests and while creating and growing business is never easy, having somebody who is effectively outside the business but constantly looking in, a invaluable asset and something I would Highly recommend". ndrew Hatcher - Managing Director Applied Knowledge
