Cindy Vasquez
Cindy is one of the most recent additions to the Class of 2007. She joined the program in the Spring of her junior year. Although she is the newest addition to the class, she has quickly assertd herself as a valuable asset to the Class of '07! She is quite the accomplished young lady having participated in a myriad of extra-curricular activities. During her high school career Cindy has served as a tutor/counselor for the Oyster Creative Services Program elementary school aged students, Secretary of the senior class, and member of the prom committee. This summer Cindy was also a finalist for the NBC 4 Telemundo Hispanic Heritage Essay Competition where she received a $700.00 scholarship. Cindy will enroll in Goucher College in the Fall where she will major in International Relations.

The three young people -- Jessica Soriano, Cindy Vasquez and Hedy Romero -- are all participants in LAYC's Upward Bound program, which helps high-school students become the first in their families to go to college, and are all seniors at Cesar Chavez Public Charter School for Public Policy.
Jessica Soriano took home 7th place; Cindy Vasquez picked up 4th place, winning $700; and Hedy Romero won 3rd place and a $1000 prize. Jessica has been in the LAYC Upward Bound program since October 2003, Hedy joined in April 2005, and Cindy became part of the program in January 2006.
