Chuck Cory began his study of Kung Fu San Soo in early 1970. Upon receiving his black belt, from Sharon and Larry Wikel, Chuck began studying San Soo directly under Jimmy H. Woo. In Jan. 1983, Grand Master Jimmy H. Woo awarded Chuck Cory the rank of Master of San Soo. At this time of writing there are schools through out the Nashville area, with Chuck now leading the way. I had requested from Chuck the use of the San soo Michigan name so it may continue into the future. I have been with San Soo Michigan since its' birth with its teaching and learning of this great art. Chuck Cory
On the other hand Jimmy, Chuck, Al Rubin, Bill Lassiter, The Wikels, (countless other full time martial art professionals) All The Forementioned's top next (2nd) generation of fulltime businessmen/instructors have dedicated their time, have laboriously and painstakingly incubated, cultivated and turned out (of their hundreds of hobbyist students) a few similarly seriously committed students that went on to continue the Tradition and open their own schools, all the while maintaining training and comraderie that has resulted, in some cases, of large groups of dedicated desciples.
You need to remember that the Nashville group is actively meeting several times a week in a couple of schools and they are learning from directly from two of Jimmys very top 1st Generation Street Fighters and Instructors: Chuck Cory and Larry Wikel. On top of that there are now a handful of 2nd Generation Masters, all pretty much directly from Chuck, that he has personally overseen and continues to train. I guarantee you, Ron, that every nite, Chuck, Bats, Bobby's, Larry's schools are full of students and the serious ones (along with the recreational cats, which btw make up 50%, or more, of most schools) get their complex questions answered. Chuck has banished a few assholes from his school and this board (including one of your other admirers…?). When I have a question about a certain leverage lock I call Chuck to I am teaching in correctly for he has been my San Soo teacher since day one. Sometimes other will chip in with great answer for they are the same. I have said to you on several conversation that you and Chuck for you both agree on a lot of things just like others do. Please do not discredit us for we are very very serious when it comes to this art. To this day when Chuck says Jeff I stop turn look and listen to what he has to say and I follow those direction. I want Chuck, Larry and what you call the Core to know they were never who I addressed but the forum in general was the subject. I spilled an Olympic swimming pool of sweat and a cup or two of blood under some incomparable tutelage not Only from Chuck, but from his senior students like Ron Bilow, Jeff Arnot, Justin Hawke, Dennis Martin..etc etc. I said Chuck had banished a few assholes in the past. My statement was made of all forums (I think this one is well run) and those who use only power and never go forward to really understand the roots of this Art, Chuck is great, remember I have known Chuck probably much longer than you have. Since you have brought this up I would like address an issue that some have really battered me on JP's site, I said when asked by a poster why no one could get along that San Soo had no leadership and it does not but JP went ballistic and tore into me (which Ish joined in), JP then bravely banned me because he did not want others to hear my answers and I could not even see the bad things they said. I said I would not type this out but so many have asked what the problem was I need to, so please spare the time to hear the whole story since this is the only way I can get out the truth. I first called Ish and he was very polite, enthusiastic and friendly, I made up my mind to collect some rare things and pictures for him to put in his school. It took me a little while to do this but during that time I saw his video and I called him, I said I didn't want to offend him but I saw some structural problems that I would help him with. He became very rude, and I will list only a few comments:
