to coach Flathead volleyball Christy Harkins, who directed Columbia Falls to a Class A state volleyball championship and five state tournament appearances in seven years, has been named the new volleyball coach at Flathead High School. Harkins
replaces Maureen Boyle, who resigned this spring to take the head volleyball and softball coaching positions at Beloit College
in Beloit, Wis.
"I'm very excited," said Harkins
"Flathead has a great program.Mo (Maureen Boyle) has done a fantastic job.I'm stepping into some great tradition." Harkins
directed the Wildkats to a state championship in her
first season with the program, 1996.
Columbia Falls was ranked No. 1 for much of last season and finished fourth at state.
"It's hard to leave the kids, the athletes and the people I work with," said Harkins
"This is a career move for me. Flathead is the largest school in the state.It's also good for my teaching.I'll get a lot more variety." Harkins
will teach English full-time.She was a part-time English teacher in Columbia Falls the last two years.
