Chris Vasko (Austria) joins the SGAC Vienna team for three months

ESPI ESA
Chris Vasko has joined the Vienna SGAC office to produce the 2009 annual report and to support the SGAC office operations. See below for more information on Chris:
Christopher Andrew Vasko was brought up bilingual and raised in both Vienna, Austria and Budapest, Hungary. After high school, he chose to study "Technical Physics" at the Vienna University of Technology, bringing him into contact with the topic of space research. During his six year masters course, he spent a year abroad in Madrid, Spain, as part of an International Exchange Program (ERASMUS) and became an active voluntary member of the Austrian Space Forum (ÖWF). As voluntary engineer, he participated in various projects such as a simulated mission to Mars using the Mars Desert Research Facilities in the United States. He also assisted in developing and constructing a remote controlled rover and a stratospheric balloon. In 2007, he participated in the ESA Summerschool Alpbach program where he was elected Team Leader and Head of Engineers and he led a team in designing a sample recovery mission to the Moon. The same year, he won the "Young Lunar Scientist Project" at the International Lunar Conference 2007. In 2008 and 2009, he worked as an intern with an Austrian company, developing a novel plasma engine for space applications and finally wrote his thesis on the impact of highly charged ions on surfaces at the Vienna University of Technology.
