Christopher Knott-Craig, MD Dr. Knott-Craig is the co-director of the Heart Institute and professor of surgery at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center. He is certified by the South African Medical & Dental Council in Cardiothoracic Surgery and specializes in minimally invasive valve surgery, infant cardiac surgery and has pioneered surgical treatments for Ebstein's anomaly. Ten days later, Dr. Christopher Knott-Craig, Le Bonheur's world-renown cardiovascular surgeon and co-director of the Heart Institute at Le Bonheur, repaired her heart. Over the next few months, Violet had two more surgeries to further correct her GI issues and to place a tracheostomy tube to aid in her airway problems.
Violet will need specialized care including the use of a ventilator and additional heart catherizations. She will remain in Le Bonheur's Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) until she is able to go home.

The designation recognizes physicians for lifetime achievement, excellence in cardiovascular care and high ethical and humanitarian principles. Grand Master distinction is the organization's highest honor.

He is an internationally-renowned pediatric cardiac surgeon who performed the first successful repair of Ebstein's anomaly in a newborn baby, in Oklahoma City in 1994.
Deonna Linsky, founder of Hannah's Hearts, said many of the families attending have children who have gone through heart surgeries and Knott-Craig will share with them how to make the trauma of pediatric heart surgery as uplifting and inspirational as possible.

Knott-Craig was the Chief of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery for 16 years in Oklahoma City until 2006, when he moved to Alabama.
In 2008, he was appointed the director of the Heart Institute at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., where he's also the Chief of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery.
Apart from his surgical results, Dr. Knott-Craig also received national attention for developing a pain-free and anxiety-free management of pediatric cardiac surgery, and for integrating the family into the hospital care of children with heart disease.
