Chris Campbell is a partner in the Cooley Litigation department and a member of the Intellectual Property Litigation practice group. Mr. Campbell is a first chair trial lawyer with over two decades of experience litigating complex patent infringement and trade secret cases involving diverse technologies such as computer software, electronics, telecommunications, semiconductors, medical devices, and mechanical devices, to name a few. Mr. Campbell's practice spans all aspects of complex patent infringement litigation, including Markman hearings, jury trials and bench trials. He has significant experience litigating in key patent jurisdictions across the country including E.D. Tex, D. Del, N.D. Ill, N.D. Cal, C.D. Cal, E.D. Va, the International Trade Commission, and the Federal Circuit. In addition, he has counseled clients in corporate IP audits and licensing negotiations, and has served as lead counsel in reexamination, inter partes review and covered business method review proceedings. His clients range from disruptive start-ups to established brands worth billions of dollars. He has successfully represented both plaintiffs and defendants in high-stakes patent trials. In 2014, following a five week jury trial, Mr. Campbell obtained a complete defense verdict for NexTag in the Western District of North Carolina in a suit brought by LendingTree. The Court awarded NexTag its attorneys' fees following trial. In 2011, he obtained a rare defense verdict in a jury trial in the Eastern District of Texas for Vistaprint Limited against Colorquick. Mr. Campbell has been selected on multiple occasions for inclusion in Chambers USA. In addition, he has been recognized as a D.C. and Virginia Super Lawyer by Law & Politics and Richmond magazine. Mr. Campbell was also peer-voted as the top Intellectual Property Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Virginia in Virginia Business' annual "Legal Elite" survey, and has been honored by The Legal 500 as a leading expert in ex parte and inter partes reexamination of patents. Prior to joining Cooley, Mr. Campbell was a partner at Goodwin Procter LLP. Early in his career, he served as an Examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
