Christopher Erikson
Christopher Erikson, Business Manager, Local 3, IBEW, is a descendent of Captain John Van Arsdale, who removed the British flag from Battery Park in New York City on Evacuation Day in 1783.
Christopher was born in Flushing, New York. He graduated from St. Nicholas of Tolentine Grammar School and St. Helena's High School in the Bronx. Upon completion of his Apprenticeship in 1980, he earned a journeyman wireman's card in Local 3, IBEW. Christopher enrolled in the Harry Van Arsdale Jr. Center for Labor Studies at Empire State College, SUNY, at night, and earned Associate and Bachelor of Science Degrees in Labor/Management Relations. During that time, he worked as an electrical foreman on several large New York City projects, including Battery Park City, South Street Seaport Pier 17, and the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. His grandfather, the late Harry Van Arsdale Jr., appointed him to the staff of the "Electrical Union World," the Local 3 Loan Fund, and in 1984 as a Local 3 Delegate to the New York City Central Labor Council. Erikson was appointed a business representative in March of 1989. He led Local 3 members through the successful Daily News strike in 1990 and represented Local 3 members at New York's three major newspapers. He was appointed Assistant Business Manager of Local 3 on July 13, 2000. He represented Local 3 members employed at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center and improved relations with the Convention Center, ultimately providing millions of man-hour opportunities for Local 3 members. Christopher also represented the Local 3 members at Madison Square Garden. He oversaw the electrical installations of the Democratic National Convention in 1992 and the Republican National Convention in 2004. He has successfully negotiated over 150 collective bargaining agreements, resulting in improved pensions and benefits that provide a higher degree of retirement security for thousands of Local 3 members. Christopher Erikson is a Local 3 delegate to the New York Hotel and Motel Trades Council, chairman of the Madison Square Garden Labor Committee and is a Director of the Harry Van Arsdale Jr. Memorial Association. He serves on the executive boards of the New York City Building and Construction Trades Council and the New York City Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO. Christopher is also president of the New York State Allied Printing Trades Council and is a member of the Catholic Council of Electrical Workers. He is a member of the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance, the IBEW Minority Caucus, and the NAACP. He has been honored by various organizations for his untiring efforts on behalf of working men and women, including the Ellis Island Medal of Honor. Christopher Erikson continues to serve the 30,000 members of Local Union No. 3, IBEW as Business Manager since October 10, 2006. A proud trade unionist, he has been married to his wife Denise for more than 27 years.
