"This new Gainesville OmniRide service we are starting will offer direct service from the Cushing Road Commuter Lot the whole way into D.C.," said PRTC spokesperson Christine Rodrigo.
Taking two trips from the Manassas OmniRide commuter bus and starting them in Gainesville instead is going to bring the buses' starting point closer to where those riders are," Rodrigo said. n addition, one trip on the Linton Hall Metro Direct route will be eliminated. Another change riders should know about is the relocation of commuter parking in Manassas. PRTC will give up the leased spaces at the Kmart parking lot at Sudley Manor Drive and Sudley Road and is encouraging commuters to park instead at the VDOT-owned commuter lot at Portsmouth and Sudley roads where there are 550 unused parking spaces. The cost of leasing 295 parking spaces at Sudley Manor Square has increased 57 percent over the past three years. "Starting Nov. 4, the K-mart parking lot will no longer be available and the bus stop will be removed, so we're encouraging people to use the Portsmouth Commuter Lot. With the people who are going to be starting their trip in Gainesville rather than starting in Manassas, and with the availability of parking so nearby at Portsmouth Road, it doesn't make sense for us financially to be leasing parking spaces," Rodrigo said.
