On December 1, 2008 Chris was sworn in as the Morgan County State's Attorney.
Chris was born in Eldred, Illinois. His family moved to Carlinville, Illinois and eventually relocated to Jacksonville, Illinois when Chris was eight years old. Chris has remained in Jacksonville through the present date. Chris attended Jacksonville High School and graduated in 1989. Chris then attended Illinois State University on a wrestling scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a minor in Sociology in 1993. Chris was employed two years as a juvenile probation officer prior to returning to school at Southern Illinois University School of Law where he earned his juris doctorate in 1998.
Chris has served as a Morgan County Bar Association Secretary, Vice President, and President. Chris is an active member of both the Morgan County Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association. In addition, Chris has served on several Morgan County Boards and is actively involved with many children's organizations.
Chris was married to his wife Jennifer in 1999 and has four children, Cole 11, Anna 9, Collin 7, and Joe 4.
During Chris's first seven years as Morgan County State's Attorney he has picked twenty two juries, including eleven involving Class X or Class M's. During the same seven year period he has obtained ten first degree murder convictions including six by verdict either through jury or bench trials.

Morgan County State's Attorney Chris Reif's appointment to the Seventh Circuit Court has county board members in search of a new top law man. The board of commissioners expects to vote on Reif's replacement by March 21, which is Reif's last day as state's attorney.
