Principal Chris Rebuck leaves St. John School next week after 6 years
For St. John Catholic School Principal Chris Rebuck, coming to Ennis wasn't part of the plan. He got here by chance, but stayed on purpose. For a young academic, the opportunity to work closely with a respected peer was one he couldn't refuse."My predecessor here, Norma Kramer, and I worked together in Pennsylvania where she was my supervisor," he explained."When a job transfer found her and her husband living in the Dallas area, she came to work here at St. John and called to offer me a position working with her.I was single and had nothing to lose moving to Texas so I took her up on the offer and have been here since 2002."Relocating to Ennis proved beneficial and even life changing -- he met and married Melony Zhanel shortly after moving to the Bluebonnet City. The couple has a daughter Megan, and a baby due in August.Rebuck said he's happy to have married into a close-knit family."Melony's family is from here and they have been wonderful in-laws," he said."They helped make living in Ennis even more special."As Rebuck marks his last week with the school, he shared with the Ennis Daily News some memories he feels will stay with him and help him in his career. "The thing I will miss the most about St. John is feeling so connected with everyone," he said."This community is big on family and because we are so close I will really miss that.I feel like parents are educators of their children and schools are there to support them and that has helped put me in a position to really know the families of St. John.I hope to take that with me to my new position."Though Rebuck is leaving the school, he and his family will continue living in Ennis. "Ennis is a hard working community with a complete dedication to family and friends, and that is something I am proud to be a part of," he said.During his years at St. John Rebuck has seen many changes in the educational process and is happy with how far the school has come."I think academically the school has become stronger," he said."There are more students interested in and attending four-year programs and we have re-established our place in the community," he said.He also sees growth in the religious aspect of students' education."I think we have grown spiritually and have continued to be open about following God's call but that is not because of anything I've done," he said.Among experiences for which he's most thankful during his tenure is having been part of the school's annual senior trip.He said he felt it helped him get to know students as individuals."It was great being involved in the senior retreat because it was time spent away from school and it helped me see the personality of the kids and get to know them a little more," he said. "It was one final time for me and the rest of the faculty to impart a lesson of preparation for the real world and I hope that when they look back on that time they cherish it as much as I do."While looking forward to moving on, he said he feels deep gratitude for the opportunity he had at St. John and plans to do what he can to help the school as it, too, progresses. "The school is an integral part of the community and I will always do what I can to make sure it succeeds," Rebuck said.

Rebuck named new president at Bishop Lynch
Chris Rebuck will become Bishop Lynch High School's new president, effective July 1, 2015.
The hire of Rebuck means that for the first time in 33 years a new president will lead the school.
"First and foremost I'd like to thank Bishop Farrell for the opportunity that he's given me and the confidence that he has in me being the leader of our Catholic community here at Bishop Lynch High School," said Rebuck, who was given a standing ovation from students, faculty, staff and alumni.
Rebuck, a native of Charleston, S.C., will replace outgoing president Ed Leyden, who announced his retirement at the beginning of the 2014-2015 school year.
For the past seven years, Rebuck has been the school's Dean of Students. Prior to arriving at Bishop Lynch, he held the prinicpal's post at St. John Catholic School in Ennis. At 37, he becomes the youngest president of a Catholic high school in the Diocese of Dallas.
Rebuck told those in attendance that while much has been accomplished at Bishop Lynch, more work is still to be done.
"Bishop Lynch has made a mark on the Diocese of Dallas," Rebuck said.
