The Orange Blossom Fire, which was ignited by lightning Tuesday, was about 30 percent contained Saturday, said Big Cypress National Preserve park ranger Chris Derman.
The fire is about three miles north of Interstate 75 at the Florida National Scenic Trail, and was advancing south, Derman
The nearest residential development is about eight miles to the east, Derman
"None of the communities or homes or properties are in immediate danger at the moment," Derman
said there's no estimated time of containment.
"(Friday) there was a little bit of movement south as far as the fire is concerned, but there wasn't any movement east, which is good for The Sanctuary," Derman
said, "but we're also trying to make sure it doesn't get any closer to 1-75."
The portion of the Florida National Scenic Trail - which runs north and south through the preserve - that is north of I-75 was closed Saturday, as were all associated side trails, Derman
