"After our performance yesterday, we knew that we were probably looking at third place, and so our goal was just to go best times and to swim fast," Mercer Island coach Chris Conroy said.
Conroy acknowledged having Mercer Island's younger swimmers participate in the state finals was promising for the program going forward.

"We didn't swim horribly, but we're not satisfied with our performance today," Mercer Island coach Chris Conroy said.
Conroy said a big theme among the Islanders after the district meet was to flush away their disappointment and only take anything technical from the race forward. If Saturday's performances from Bellevue and Bainbridge serve as indicators, the Islanders will need their best to make good on their goal for showing well at the state meet next weekend. "They both have really deep teams," Conroy said of Saturday's top two finishing teams.

It was an impressive showing for the Islanders, though Mercer Island coach Chris Conroy admitted his team had set their sights a little higher.
"Our goal was to win the meet," he said. Conroy noted Murdoch's 100 free and 200 free times were personal bests, as was Hixon's effort in the 100 back.

"We were fairly confident that we could win the 3A title today," Mercer Island coach Chris Conroy said.
Conroy acknowledged that having an impressive showing at KingCo is by no means the end goal for his team. But with the end of the season right around the corner, he was feeling pretty good about the strides his swimmers had shown. "I'm really pleased with where we're at," Conroy said.
