PHILADELPHIA, PA - October 1, 2012 - NBC10 Philadelphia announced today that Chris Cato will be joining the station as weekend anchor starting at the end of the month. Cato will anchor NBC10 News at 6 and 11 PM on weekends with co-anchor Denise Nakano.

Cato joins NBC10 from CBS affiliate WSPA in Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina, where he has worked since 2005. In 2008, he moved to the anchor desk for the station's 5:30 and 7 PM newscasts. While at WSPA, Cato covered some notable major breaking news events, including the devastating tornadoes of April 2011 and former South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford's public admission of his extramarital affair.

Cato was named 2012 Reporter of the Year by the South Carolina Broadcasters Association. In 2011, his work on the investigative series "Shadow of Sickness" received a regional Edward R. Murrow award for Best News Series. He is also the recipient of numerous awards for his investigative work and environmental reports during his tenure at WSPA.
Cato began his career as a reporter at ABC affiliate WMBB in Panama City, Florida, where he eventually anchored the station's evening newscasts.

News Channel 7Chris CatoChris Cato is proud to call upstate South Carolina his new home!He comes to WSPA from WMBB, Media General's station in Panama City, Florida where he co-anchored the 5,6, & 10 o'clock news and reported crime stories.He also covered several hurricanes and tropical storms, most notably Hurricane Ivan in September 2004.During that storm, Chris was part of a team that brought viewers 36 hours of continuous coverage as Ivan destroyed parts of the Florida panhandle and claimed several lives.
Chris has won several awards for his reporting and anchoring, including Media General's D. Tennant Bryan Award for hard news reporting and three Florida Associated Press awards.
Chris grew up on a farm near the small town of Oneonta, Alabama (little known fact: Oneonta is Cherokee for "the place where Chris grew up").He is the son of Joseph and Freda Cato, and has a younger and less-handsome brother, Ben.On that farm, Chris learned the value of hard work and quickly decided he did not want to work for a living!
Chris attended Troy State University (now Troy University) in Troy, Alabama, where he he fell in love with television news and earned a bachelor's degree in Broadcast/Speech Communication.
