Chris Branch, senior management director of Faison, a multifamily development group based in Charlotte, says the developer is building far more multifamily units, namely apartments, than in previous years - and is planning several encores.
Branch says the demand for apartment rentals reflects the convergence of three main trends: an economic shift, a demographic shift and a psychographic shift.
"The first (reason) is job growth. Obviously if you have new jobs, you'll need more homes," he says.
Branch adds that the struggle for first-time buyers is partly due to young Americans' quickness to change jobs earlier in their career trajectory.
