Dr. Chris Atkinson
Dr. Chris Atkinson - Co-founder
Chris Atkinson started his career at Shell but spent most of his formative years at Atlantic Richfield (ARCO) in the USA, Southeast Asia and Europe.
He was the founder of Serica Energy plc and has been involved with the successful start up and financing of a further four companies (Mitra Energy, Malaysia; MPX Limited, UK; ZinMac - now Strategic Oil and Gas, Canada; Greenfields Petroleum, USA).
brings a wealth of exploration and small company experience and has worked extensively in frontier basins throughout the world.
Mr. Atkinson is a professional geologist with over 30 years of experience in the upstream oil and gas sector, ranging from working for major oil companies to developing and financing start-up companies.
He was co-founder, Chief Operating Officer and then Advisor to the Board of Serica Energy plc and is currently the Chairman of Petcon Borneo Limited and a director of CaribX Limited.
Mr. Atkinson started his career as a geologist with Shell International in the Netherlands.
He then joined Atlantic Richfield Company ("ARCO"), where he held a number of positions culminating in him being appointed Vice President of Exploration for ARCO Europe/North Africa.
In 2001 he
launched the first of his
own start-up ventures "pda" which went on to become Serica
Mr. Atkinson holds both BSc and PhD degrees in Geology from the University of Wales, UK.

From 1979-1982 he
undertook a PhD in Geology sponsored by the Shell International Petroleum Company
at the University of Wales
and State University of Utrecht, Netherlands
.Christopher joined the Shell International Petroleum Company at their KSEPL Rijswijk Research Laboratory in 1983.He
was assigned to the Production Geology section where he
authored a series of internal reports and manuals concerned primarily with the quantification of geological data for reservoir simulation.Several of these reports and manuals are still in use throughout the Shell group of companies
.In 1985 Christopher joined the ARCO Oil and Gas Company, where he remained until 2000 when the company was finally taken over by BPAmoco.
From 1985 to 1990 he
continued to conduct research and technical services on development geology/reservoir engineering related topics.However, in 1990 he
was transferred into exploration with ARCO Indonesia
in Jakarta.During the last seven years with ARCO, Christopher held a variety of senior management positions in both the UK and Europe.From 1994 to 1997, he was the Chief Geologist/Manager of Exploration Technology for ARCO British and in 1997 he was promoted to Exploration Manager for the Deepwater Atlantic Margin.In 1999 he was appointed Exploration Director of ARCO British and Exploration Vice President for ARCO Europe and North Africa.
