Volunteer Appreciation Award - Chris Aalders
In April 2010, United Way/Centraide Central N.B. Inc. and Investors Group Financial Services, presented Chris Aalders, CPA (N.B.) Inc. Board member, with a Volunteer Appreciation Award for his work in the Fredericton community. Board member Chris Aalders, with a Volunteer Appreciation Award. Chris is an incredible ambassador for people with mobility-related disabilities and he has been committed to raising awareness of disabilities since his work-related injury in 2004. Chris has shared his personal story with others in venues such as the Stories component of our web site, as a keynote speaker at our annual Art and Antique Auction and at a United Way event. Chris was also featured in two Daily Gleaner articles - a May 2, 2008 article on accessibility and a June 14, 2008 Father's Day full-page feature. Chris was nominated for this contest by his wife Cristin and two sons - Logan and Griffin. In this article, Cristin reflected, "He transports both of our boys to worlds where mobility doesn't matter. Chris also recently shared his personal story in an innovative radio advertising campaign piloted in the Fredericton, Woodstock, Grand Falls and Bathurst areas to help promote CPA (N.B.) Inc. vocational services to people with mobility-related conditions. He is also our 2010 Ambassador of the Fredericton Wheels in Motion event to be held in June. Chris also makes outstanding contributions on the community with respect to sports and recreation. Chris is the President of the Elm City Wheelchair Basketball Sports Club and he has started up a youth wheelchair basketball group in Fredericton. He has also served as a coach with the Easter Seals Abilities Program. He also plays on an A Division basketball team, the Fredericton All Courts, who have won the Maritime Wheelchair Basketball League 7 times over the last 10 years. They placed 2nd this year and placed 2nd in the Canadian Wheelchair Basketball League in 2009. Chris is a true ambassador and a valued member of the CPA (N.B.) team. His energy and kindness are a continual inspiration. Chris Aalders The CPA (N.B.) Inc. was honoured to present an Ambassador of the Year Award for 2007-2008 to Chris Aalders. Chris is an incredible ambassador for people with spinal cord injuries. Chris has been committed to sharing his personal story to others in venues such as the Success Stories component of our web site, as a keynote speaker at our annual Art and Antique Auction and to employees of Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline at a United Way event. Chris was also featured in two Daily Gleaner articles - a May 2, 2008 article on accessibility and a June 14, 2008 Father's Day full-page article entitled A love like no other. Chris was also profiled as a contest winner in the spring 2008 edition of Today's Parent magazine in a feature entitled Dad's we love. Chris was nominated for this contest by his wife Cristin and two sons - Logan and Griffin.
