Cheryl Sanders
D2 County Commissioner
News, 19 Dec 2010 [cached]
Responding to calls from concerned Alligator Point residents, our County Commissioner, Cheryl Sanders, initiated a project intended to address and, hopefully, resolve parking snarls at public beach access points. The County maintains only three public access points on the Point (1) at Chip Morrison Drive, (2) Alligator Drive between Carnival Lane and Fiesta Drive, and (3) the so-called "S" curve to the west on Alligator Drive.
The extent of the problem became apparent July 4th weekend when there were more cars than parking spaces at the "S" curve plus boats loading and unloading trailers across the street at the boat ramp. It was an unsafe mess both for pedestrians and auto traffic. Commissioner Sanders asked APTA to collect information, suggestions and comments from residents as part and parcel of this effort to improve traffic safety and flow for visitors using these access points.
