Charlotte M. (Day) Worgess, 84, of Battle Creek and Richland died Monday December 15, 2003, at Calhoun County Medical Care Facility.She was born January 27, 1919 in Kalamazoo, MI to Harry F. and Glenna (VanMiddlesworth) Day.She was raised in Athens and graduated from Athens High School.After high school she worked in Battle Creek and was also employed at Mid-Michigan Medical Supply in the Women's Department, later in life.She resided in Battle Creek most of her life and in Richland for several years.Charlotte was married in Battle Creek November 30, 1946, to Russell V. Worgess.Russ preceded her in death February 24, 1995.Surviving are her children, Brian D. (Linda) Worgess of Mason, Douglas G. (Susan) Worgess of Richland, Jennifer A. (David) Hanna of Gull Lake, Richard H. (Ofelija) Worgess of Homer, 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a sister, Ellen (Joseph) Snyder of Bloomington, IL.She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church, member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, a former member of the Battle Creek Country Club and Battle Creek Garden Club.Charlotte donated her time to civic and social causes and activities during her husband, Russell's tenure on the Battle Creek City Commission (1952-57) and as Mayor of Battle Creek (1957-58).Her volunteer work included organizing activities for the mentally and physically challenged residents of the former Ft. Custer State Home and as a foster mother for the Battle Creek Family and Children's Services, a past president and longtime volunteer for the former Community Hospital Auxiliary and was a former member of the Board of Directors at Emily Andrus Home.She was an avid antique collector and loved to show off her home for Christmas and garden for fundraising teas and walks in aid of the Garden Club and Hospital Auxiliary.
