CHARLIE O'KANE
Our Knight of the Month for June 2009 is Charlie O'Kane, who is very proud of his Irish Catholic Heritage. Charlie, his wife Barbara and their children have been Saint Joan of Arc parishioners (this time around) for four years. They left our Parish from 2000-2005 while they lived in Fort Collins, which was a career move for Barbara. Another career move brought them back to Arvada and Saint Joan's. They were happy to resume their lives in Arvada and reconnect with our Parish. Charlie and Barbara made a decision ten years ago that one of the parents should stay home and take care of their two children, Patrick, 9 years old and Brendan, 7 years old. They felt that the kids deserve a guided and loving childhood that would teach them about God and Catholic beliefs. While Charlie has had a good education and held several good jobs in the past, Barbara's career as an Industrial Hygiene and Safety Expert would provide a better and more consistent single-parent income. So Charlie has proudly been a stay at home DAD for nine years and is doing an excellent job with the kids and household chores. He states that Barbara, being a good multi-tasker, takes the time to be a GOOD MOM and shares in the demands of the household. Charlie joined the Knights less than a year ago and is proud to be a member. He relates his Irish Catholic heritage to that of Father McGivney, our celebrated founder. Charlie has been impressed with the Knights of Columbus since childhood. He loves the history and development of the Knights since the founding. He enjoys the camaraderie with our Council members. He likes the affirmation of the values we share. Charlie is often seen working at our Pancake breakfasts, in Deacon Buddy's classes, working at the Parish Picnics and is planning to join in our Heaven's Helpers work as time allows. He plans to be more active in the future as the kids grow older and his family demands are reduced. In the meantime he takes comfort in maintaining his membership and helping when and where he can. We are glad that Charlie is a member and that he and Barbara are raising their sons by the standards and values we promote and hold dear in the KOC. Sounds like we have two more future Knights in the making with Patrick and Brendan. Good going Charlie and Barbara, and thanks for all that you do!
