The Boys & Girls Club
of Southwestern Oregon recently selected Marshfield High School senior, Charles Hill
, as their local Boys & Girls Club
2007 Youth of the Year. On April 5-6, Charles
will travel up to Salem to compete for the State Youth of the Year title.The event, sponsored by the Reader's Digest Association
and administered by Boys & Girls Club
of America (B&GCA), recognizes exemplary character, superior leadership skills, outstanding service to Boys & Girls Clubs and the community and academic achievement. As a 10-year member of the Club, Charles
has been actively involved in the sports and after-school programs.Currently, as a program staff member, Charles serves as a positive role model for younger members, ensuring safety and fun on the gamesroom floor or in the gym.
In addition he
has volunteered numerous hours helping at a local adoption business, C.A.R.E
, helping animals which have been abandoned or abused and has helped his
local church through canned food and toy drives. With an interest in sports, Charles played basketball for two years and has been the team manager for Marshfield's volleyball program for the past four years.While maintaining a 3.48 G.P.A., he is a member of his schools N.A.Y.A., Native American Youth Association, and Cross Roads programs. Charles Hill, the son of Charles and Darci Hill, would like to attend Southwestern Community College before transferring up to Oregon State University in hopes of pursuing a degree as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
