Charles Helm, CHA, is a hotel owner, operator and developer from Sulphur Springs, Texas.
Active in the Best Western organization since 1982, Helm joined the board as its secretary/treasurer in 2005, became its vice chairman a year later and completed a one-year term as chairman in 2007.
Helm represents the interests of Best Western hoteliers located in the company's District V region, which includes Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana.
Helm's Best Western Crown Colony Inn & Suites, located in Lufkin, Texas, has earned several Best Western quality and design awards, including Best of the Best, the brand's top hotel honor.
Helm has opened three new Best Western properties in Texas since 2008, including the Best Western Monica Royale Inn & Suites in Greenville, the Best Western Christopher Inn & Suites in Forney and the Best Western Atrea Crown Chase Inn & Suites in Denton.
Well respected within his local business and civic communities, Helm is a former member of the Texas Hotel Motel Association's board of directors.
His previous roles also included board vice president for the Hopkins County (Texas) Chamber of Commerce, and board president for the county's convention center.
In addition, he served as president of the Hopkins County Economic Development Corporation, as well as on the board of the Hopkins County Industrial Foundation.
Helm was named Hopkins County Citizen of the Year in 1992.
Helm, a Certified Hotel Administrator, earned a degree in marketing and finance from East Texas State University-Commerce in 1975.
He and
his wife, Sharon, have a daughter, Monica, and a son, Chase, a civil engineering student at
Texas A&M.
